The Open – 2025

Well, Scottie Scheffler just casually ruined another major. It’s very clear that when he is on his game, there is just not much anyone else can do to stop him from winning. The Open this year was played in Northern Ireland at Royal Portrush Golf Club, and was claimed by the #1 golfer in the world – Scottie Scheffler. This is Scottie’s 2nd major victory this year and his 4th overall, leaving only the U.S. Open left on his list to complete a career grand slam.

It was pretty clear going into the weekend that Scottie was going to be a threat, and heading into Sunday it was all but certain. The final day of the tournament left no doubt on who would be holding the Claret Jug, as Scheffler started the round up 4 strokes, and extended it to as high as 8 before finishing the round back up 4. It seemed like every drive put him in a good spot, every green in regulation was hit, and the putter was working just how it always does.

The Open Championship is always unique, being played on a links course at a few select locations in the United Kingdom. It brings a whole different set of challenges to golfers, who will not face trees, but have to adapt to firm fairways, high winds, deep pothole bunkers, and “hill-y” slopes and greens that cover the entire course.

Rory had a great weekend playing in his own backyard, staying in contention until Scottie proved to be too far ahead, and finished T7 at 10 under. Harris English and Chris Gotterup rounded out the podium, with some big names behind them including last years winner Xander Schauffele.

From the LIV group, Bryson DeChambeau definitely had the most intriguing round, finishing day 1 with a disappointing 78, but rallying the rest of the weekend, shooting 65, 68, and 64 the next 3 days to go from a tie in 144th place to a tie for 10th, a phenomenal bounce back.

The oldest golf tournament in the world has once again come and passed. It was a fun watch, but admittingly not very exciting as 1 man clearly couldn’t be beat. We now have to wait until next years Masters tournament for the next golf major, where we are most certainly going to see Mr. Scheffler’s name on top of those leaderboards once again.
