PGA Championship

The 2024 golf season is in full swing, and the 2nd major of the year has just wrapped up. Hopefully if you’re reading this you were able to watch some of the tournament – played at Valhalla, a beautiful course in Louisville Kentucky. The tourney got off to a great start on Thursday, with Xander Schauffele tying the course record with a 9 under 62, and the rest of the field showing what makes them pros. World #1 Scottie Scheffler holed out for eagle on the first hole, LIV golfers Cam Smith and Brooks Koepka started strong, and per usual many tough shots were made in situations where all of us would struggle.

Things got a little strange on day 2, as anyone who watched it probably heard the commentators mention it every single time Scottie was shown. A misunderstanding heading into the clubhouse in the early morning led to his arrest but that didn’t stop him from showing everyone why is at the top of the food chain in the world of golf, as he finished with a 66. But it was day 3 where Scottie struggled and essentially ended his hopes of his second major victory of the year. And shoutout to Shane Lowry who matched Schauffele’s course tying record 62 on Friday.

The weekend round was a good one, with 4 great golfers competing to take home the hardware. Collin Morikawa tied with Xander at the top and LIV’s Bryson DeChambeau and Norway’s Viktor Hovland right behind. Collin had what would have been an incredible round for any of us – getting a par on every hole through 14 but left in the dust by the others and finished tied for 4th. Hovland missed his birdie putt to tie the lead on 18 and settled for 3rd, while Bryson was locked in, especially his short game, and tied Xander’s score with a birdie on 18 that would have forced a playoff. Would have being the key words as Xander had a birdie of his own, saving a tough shot off the fairway and securing his first major victory with a great up and down. It was a fantastic tournament, and a big congratulations to Xander Schauffele, now a major champion!
